Model // Change

This is the individual or social change group of the model, it is caused by the concept and itself alters the context . Explore the top level model groupings ( Principles > Concept > Change > Context ).

Changes are divided into 3 categories, unidentified and identified changes in the individual yield either concrete outcomes in the individual, such as concrete skill development, or lead to deeper social change, for example by opening the individual’s perspective.

Here, this change is modeled by first being unidentified – something changes in me but I don’t know or don’t know what changed. This change is possibly then identified – I understand what it was which changed – through reflection or introspection.

Changes are related to the experience of Other – experiencing a different space, I notice (implicitly or explicitly) how it differs from my day-to-day. This noticing causes me pause to reconsider – how ought I be? which is better (for me/for society)? what does it mean that there are multiple viable solutions to the same problem? These mirror the international experience, the feeling of seeing an entirely different way of living which is just as viable or more preferred than one’s own.

Having this experience, one gains new views. More so however, the act of breaking from the bindings of one’s world view really opens up whole entire other ways of being – now that I see there is another option to a topic, what other topics also have other options?, besides just my view and this other view, what other views exist about this topic?. It is really the source of true empathy and creativity, seeing the other options, being open to understanding other modes of being and one own’s perspective.

This change then induces concrete personal and/or deeper societal changes. Concrete outcomes are about using the new found understanding in one’s day-to-day – now that I can see these other options, let me use this to improve my skills, approach problems with more resources, be more confident in my approach (as I see a wider view), etc. Deeper societal changes are about using this understanding to change the world we live in – what would society be like if everyone were this way?
